Built in 1969 according to international standard, the Marikina Sports Center is the first of its kind in Asia. It has one of the best engineering designs and facilities in the country. Some of its amenities include the olympic-size swimming pool, covered gymnasium, trade oval and a grandstand that can sit 15,000 people at one time.
Marikina is a sports-conscious community. It has a colorful history in sports having been a popular venue of various organized sports activities in the past. The city has resolved to create not merely a sports program, but a culture that will promote among the people the love and the habit for physical invigoration through sports and recreational games
It is in this light that the city has launched the project: Sports for Health (center of traditional and non-traditional sports activities; a training ground for world-class athletes) and Sports for Wealth (a center for the manufacture and distribution of sporting goods, facilities, equipment and services, and tourism. |
